Vege Threads basics are suitable for cold gentle machine wash (excluding swim). However, for our more delicate collections ( yoga, intimates, sun socks and merino basics) washing by hand will extend garment life. Follow our guidelines below.
Cold over Cool
Today smart washers have a specific temperature range for “Cool” settings (usually 20-30 °C), meaning that if the water that comes out of the tap is colder than the set temperature, the machine will add a bit of hot water to adjust. If your machine has a “Tap Cold” setting or ability to override your cool setting to cold water straight from the tap, we recommend using it to ensure no hot water is added. Not only does cold water washing save energy, it protects your clothes from shrinkage, weakening of fibres and colour fading.
Organic Cotton & Hemp
Cold machine wash with mild eco detergent and line dry in shade. For rib or knit items, always dry and store flat to avoid stretching out of shape. Do not bleach, tumble dry or soak for long periods. Cool iron if necessary.
Turn your garments or socks inside out first. Cold machine wash with wool or mild detergent on a wool or delicates cycle and line dry in shade. Wools in-built odour resistance and anti-bacterial properties means you can air dry overnight for extra wear but be careful - stains and body oils attract moths. To prevent damage from wardrobe bugs ensure your garment is clean before putting away and store with cedar blocks or in airtight bags in-between seasons. Do not bleach, tumble dry or soak for long periods. Cool iron if necessary.
Rinse in cold fresh water soon after wearing to remove the chlorine or salt water from the fabric. Do not store when wet or without rinsing. Leave to dry completely in shade out of direct sunlight, we recommend drying in the bathroom to avoid sun damage and colour loss. Avoid abrasive surfaces. If necessary, cold gentle hand wash separately with mild eco soap carefully. Do not machine wash, iron or tumble dry.
Modal is a silky soft, but delicate fabric. We recommend hand wash only for shape retention and longevity, as machine washing was can be too aggressive on intimates. Cold hand wash with mild eco detergent and line dry in shade. Do not bleach, tumble dry or soak for long periods.
